Act Today

Senate Bill 333/House Bill 644 is scheduled to be heard in both the Senate Health & Welfare Committee and the House Health Subcommittee tomorrow, Wednesday, March 26 at 12 p.m. An amendment has been proposed that would significantly impair access to care in Tennessee and erode efficiency in the health care system. The American Association of Nurse Practitioners® (AANP) is working with our state organization member, the Tennessee Nurses Association and other partners in Tennessee, to push back on this bill.Legislators need to hear from nurse practitioners (NPs) on this bill today!

What’s happening and why it’s a problem: The anticipated amendment would add new requirements for existing collaborative physician relationships and require NPs who have held a certificate of fitness for less than 36-months to have continuous and constant supervision physically present onsite, have 100% of their charts reviewed within 24 hours of the NP seeing a patient, and provide the patient with immediate availability to a supervising provider at the request of a patient. Tennessee already has some of the most restrictive practice laws in the country. These added requirements would result in less patients getting care and fewer early career NPs staying in Tennessee.

What you can do to help: Speak up! Please use the button below to share your concern with committee members in advance of the hearing. Raise your voice to protect patients’ access to timely care and prevent new barriers to NP practice. Your engagement can make a difference!
