Upcoming Events and Elections--Preview of the Upcoming Months

Posted over 1 year ago by Alicia Frasure

Hello All Our Lovely Members!

Just wanted to throw out some info for you all regarding upcoming events with NETNPA.  So hang on and hang with cause there's a lot of info about to come your way...

First, Mariah Edwards will be working on our Social Media presence, so stay tuned for updates.  We are excited that she is helping us!  Hopefully our socials' presence will help our NETNPA community grow!

Second, we have our candidates for our upcoming elections for Vice President and Treasurer set.
We are working on a Survey Monkey to send out for voting.
Watch your Inbox for the link and be sure to VOTE.
We are super stoked to have 2 candidates for each position!!!  All candidates are awesome NETNPA members who want to be INVOLVED in our organization and we are thrilled they are willing to serve on our Board.

As always, ANY member who would like to be more involved or help NETNPA is always welcome and your help in any capacity is fantastic.
We have several areas where those who want to participate more can assist.
Plus ANY ideas that can add to our organization or better our presence are always welcome.  We are open to suggestions and we do care and LISTEN to our members' feedback.
Our Quarterly Charitable Outreach stemmed from member suggestions to "give back to our community."
Our Bonfire merchandise with NETNPA logo came from suggestions from members.
Our scholarship and Holiday Social were all from suggestions/feedback that our members have shared.
Having the ability to pay membership online was a member's idea as well.
We are listening!  :)

Ok, so for Meetings on the horizon...all meetings start at 6pm as always...

Thursday, August 18th NETNPA Social Meeting will be held in Kingsport at Chop House.  Speaker to address Ingrezza (medication to assist with Tardive Dyskinesia).
Speaker TBA.
We will announce the results of the Vice President and Treasurer elections at this meeting.
Side note about the sponsor:
The sponsor does indicate that since medication is not FDA approved for children or pregnant women, those who are "strictly" only certified to see these patients may be limited in ability to attend.
However, if you are a provider whose SCOPE covers patients outside of the "FDA restricted population" then you can absolutely attend.
Basically, in my view, if you are an FNP and are able to see the spectrum of ages, then you are obviously able to attend since that is a medication you may encounter at some point.  Same thing if you are a Women's Health provider, NOT ALL OF YOUR PATIENTS are pregnant.  As a WH provider you see NON-pregnant people at some point in your practice (right), so you are not limited in ability to attend (in my view).
Does that make sense?
IMO, even those of you who have Pediatrics as your specialty..."Pediatric health care providers, including PNPs, are qualified to assist patients from birth to age 21 years of age, adolescents and young adults older than 21 years of age with special health care needs, and young adult patients during the transition to adult health care services"...so over 18+ is part of PNP's practice, so I feel that it is appropriate to be included since PNP's SCOPE covers young adults.
Make sense?
Basically, while the Sponsor has those limitations essentially to prob CYA (on their end), if YOU are capable of seeing and caring for patient's within your licensure and SCOPE, then I don't see an issue with you attending.
If you have questions, please let me know and reach out.
We do not want to exclude anybody at all.  We just have to "disclose" the sponsor's "restriction" and respect it.
Again, if you are unsure and you are planning/wanting to attend...just reach out to us and we can discuss.
And yes, we have probably heard this topic before, but our gracious sponsor was able to help us in a timely fashion, so we are happy to have them and hope that you will support them as well by attending.

Ok, moving on to meetings in the works...

September 15th (Thursday)--Social Meeting--Sponsor/Topic: Aimovig (migraine prophylaxis); Location TBA

October 20th (Thursday)--Business Meeting (last one of the year)--Sponsor Change but equally awesome!  See event invite for details.

November 17th (Thursday)--Social Meeting--Sponsor/Topic: Trudhesa-Migraine Nasal Spray; Location TBA

December--Holiday Social--Date TBA.  This is the annual Social for our Members Hosted by the NETNPA Board.  If you haven't gotten to attend before, it is a great time where we can all socialize and have a nice evening focused on US.  We are excited to keep this tradition going and are currently working on finding a location to host the event.  We will post the date and details as we get those solidified.  Remember, this event is open to Current NETNPA Members, so if you have colleagues or others who have been on the fence about joining, this could be your opportunity to sway them to "just do it!"

January 2023 --no sponsor in the works just yet (send suggestions/contact info/etc our way--we can always use a good database full of contacts for future meetings)

February 2023--Social Meeting--Sponsor/Topic: NovoNordisk-Overview of Rare Bleeding Disorders--location, etc TBA.

Shew...that was a lot!  Of course, things "can" change, but this is the current line up.  We will open up registration for the events when it gets closer so that we can have the most accurate info for our sponsors and also to not get anything confused about when and where, etc.

A couple more things real quick since you are reading this far (and kudos to you for hanging with since this IS lengthy)...

Fall Scholarship
We have had several candidates for the Fall Scholarship and we will be working on getting that information out to the Scholarship Committee for selection.  Thank you to all who have promoted and spread the word about our scholarship opportunity. :)

If you would like to volunteer for the Scholarship Committee, please send us an email at NETNPA@registerednurses.com and we will add you to the committee.

If you know any businesses who would like to donate items or services to our organization for the NETNPA Holiday Social, please gather those things, get information regarding if they want a tax receipt and how to send to them.  Also if you get a donation or YOU want to donate something to the NETNPA Holiday Social, please let me know or any of the Board members.  I will gladly collect donations/items and store until the event.

NETNPA Group Activity?
Prior to the "pandelerium" from the pandemic we had discussed participating in 5k Run/Walk events and other things like that outside of our usual meetings.  The purpose of these were to socialize and hang out with each other in another setting outside of our usual meetings.  We would like to work on getting this back up and running as an idea.  Again, all of this is voluntary and is more of a "social" thing for our members.  NETNPA will be the catalyst, but participation and all associate fees would be paid for by each individual participant.

Support Our Team

We are participating in the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb to pay tribute to the FDNY firefighters who selflessly gave their lives so that others might live. Your support of the 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb provides assistance to the surviving families and co-workers of the 343 firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

We will make a separate announcement with info on how to JOIN the team or Donate to our Team.

Also, the registration is LIMITED for the event and there are only 500 total spots for all of TriCities (Bristol Event), so PLEASE register early.  Registration is $35, shirt is included for the event.  You can also add a donation to your registration as well.  Please consider registering early so that you can be there with us!

Registration DOES fill up.  Last year Amanda Beach (VP) and I were going to register and do this event, but it was closed as it had reached its capacity.  Many regional first responders and fire-fighters attend this event and have large teams.  Amanda and I decided that although we didn't get to participate in the Bristol official 9/11 Memorial Stair Climb, we were still going to do the stair climb to honor those who did so on 9/11.  We went to a local school stadium and climbed the equivalent of 110 stories of the World Trade Center.  We did it.  We were proud to do so.  Plus it made us reflect on those who were there that day, in the heavy gear, breathing toxins, in the heat of a building on fire, not knowing what was happening, but running forward and straight into the unknown in order to uphold their duty and oath to serve and assist the public.  It was an amazing experience.  We were glad that we did it, even if it wasn't in the "official" hosted way that we had planned.  It was nice to honor those who gave their lives for others in a massive tragedy our country faced.

I hope you will participate or support our team through your donation.

Stay tuned for a specific announcement about this event.

Also feel free to invite non-members to join our team as well.  The more the merrier!!

And Last but NOT Least...Make Your Voice Heard at the Annual Legislative Breakfast

The Annual Legislative Breakfast will be held on Saturday, August 13, 2022 from 10:00 am - 12noon at Franklin Woods Community Hospital, 3rd Floor Summit Room.    Full Practice Authority for Advanced Practice Registered Nurses will be discussed with our state legislators.    Please make an effort to attend.   Invite your colleagues.

RSVP to Christine Reed at Christine.reed@hillrom.com
Breakfast will be served

Thanks for hanging with...we hope this has useful information for you.  Forgive any errors in grammar or spelling...I don't like to proofread...but hopefully you will get the idea of what we are trying to communicate.  LOL!!!

Have a great one!

Alicia Frasure, President
